About Us

Castle Rock Farm

About The Farm

“Farming is a labor of love. It can be tough, frustrating, and discouraging. But, the rewards of success, the joy of fresh food, the satisfaction of a hard day’s work, and the smile on your neighbors face make it all worthwhile.”

Castle Rock Farm is nestled at the foothills of Mt. Diablo in the Northgate neighborhood of beautiful Walnut Creek, CA. Currently, the farm has 1 acre in production featuring a diverse mix of fruits, many vegetables, and fresh cut flowers.

The farm focuses on crops chosen for select characteristics including short days to maturity, high yield per linear foot, and popularity. Economy of space and motion are also key elements as well as flexibility and a willingness to try new things. The farm includes its own post-harvest processing station and cold storage which allows for a true farm-to-table experience. There are no middle-men. All of the produce is sold or delivered within hours of harvest by the farmers. It really doesn’t get any fresher than this.

Your neighborhood farm is in production year round. Our farmstand, located on the farm, is open every Saturday from 10am – 5pm. During the Spring, Summer, and Fall, the farm will be open on additional days. Check our schedule here.

Beginning this year, the farm will be providing neighbors with a seasonal CSA box. Members will have the option to pick-up at the farm or, have fresh produce delivered right to their doorstep. Learn more here.

Our Sustainable and Organic

Farming Practices

farming practice for
Pest Control

No chemical pesticides of any kind are ever used at Castle Rock Farm. The farm employs the use of beneficial pollinator hedgerows to provide ample habitat for a variety of insects. You might also notice insect netting, scare tape for the birds, or the farmers applying seasonal beneficial nematodes. All of our pest control tactics are in compliance with the standards as set forth by the USDA National Organic Program.

Weed Mitigation

On any farm, organic or otherwise, weeds are a fact of life. At Castle Rock Farm, the farmers take pride in the fact that no herbicides are ever used. Instead, the farmers employ a variety of tactics including solarization, occultation, flame weeding, and most of all, hand weeding.

We do it all
By Hand

Pitchforks, broadforks, stirrup hoes, rakes, steak knives, harvest bins, and the amazing Quick Cut Greens Harvester are Castle Rock Farm's tools in the field. We hand harvest, hand wash, and deliver our produce straight from the farm right to your table.

On-Site Post Harvest

All of Castle Rock Farm's produce stays on-site. There are no distributors or middle-men. Everything is direct from the farmers. A true farm to table experience. It doesn't get any fresher than this.

Compost

Castle Rock Farm is currently implementing its own hot compost and vermicompost systems via a partnership with our good friends at Delta Worms. If outside inputs are required, it is verified to be OMRI Certified from reputable sources.

farming practice for
Water Conservation

Castle Rock Farm utilizes various forms of water conservation on the farm. For example, targeted drip irrigation coupled with straw mulch delivers water precisely where needed while the mulch prohibits excessive evaporation.

We live down the street from this little farm and the tomatoes are AMAZING! You forget what they are supposed to taste like, after eating the store-bought ones for so many years.

Tiffany
